How much does participation cost for startups?

We expect a donation from participating companies, paid to the e-lab at the time of the midterm presentations. And we expect you to help the team learn from your company to produce optimum project results. Unless otherwise agreed, additional cost of travel is paid by the companies.

How does my company benefit from this course?

You will have three to four selected students from different disciplines working for your company one day per week during the course (approx. 3 months).

The opportunity cost of not pursuing the e-lab project might be much higher: some startups could have prevented bancruptcy doing the market research or competitor analysis the team is doing for you.

Additionally, business coaches we worked with made the experience that the e-lab team's collaboration with the founders helped overcoming communication barriers between startups and financiers.

Yet the primary actual benefit we expect you to have is fun working together with entrepreneurially thinking students, explaining your problems and victories and learning from their questions based on current academic research and an e-lab course held by experienced lecturers.

The students participating in the e-lab are excellent in academia and entrepreneurially thinking. As relations and networking are significant in business life, your long-term profits can easily exceed all short term gains by getting to know potential future customers, partners or employees.

How does e-lab work?

A team of three to four interns will work on your project one day per week during the course. Additionally, they meet approx. ten times for additional lectures and discussions on different entrepreneurship issues (in English language). At the end of the course, the students will present their reports to you, to the lecturers and the coaches. To a large extent, the grades depend on the quality of the project results they present.

Who are the students?

The studeants mainly major in business administration, electrical engineering or computer science. How are student teams and company projects matched?

During company registration, the management is asked to provide a description of the company and of the project(s) it offers. Students choose their startups and projects according to these descriptions. The team of students that has selected your company will meet your managing director at the beginning of the course to decide whether team and company are compatible and how the project is defined in detail. Due to the restricted number of participants, the number of company registrations usually exceeds the number of possible teams. We therefore cannot guarantee you a student team.

What certification do I get for the e-lab? How does it fit into my regular course of studies?

Every student receives an Entrepreneurship Laboratory participation certificate. It contains a grade for your project and class work. For students of business administration (BWL) at Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU), the grade counts as four elective credit points (4 Wahlpunkte). Students from other faculties can obtain a "Wahlfachschein" (certification as elective course).

So why should I do it?

You only should if you do not fear the work and are interested in

  • how "starting up" feels & works
  • getting to know international entrepreneurially thinking fellow students and people in the high-tech startup environment
  • team work experience with fellow students from other faculties
  • broadening your mind and learn from other academic disciplines while solving practical problems
  • intensive studies in a small class (maximum 30 Students) and teams (three to four students)
  • following a course similar to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Entrepreneurship Laboratory, held by excellent lecturers
  • improving your English proficiency

But if that is the case, you can be sure to learn a lot and to have great fun following e-lab like others had before!
